I’m going to get into burning fat and how to lose weight in a minute but first, I need to let you know that I’m sitting here with Crest Whitening strips on my teeth. It’s 9:52 PM. Ever use these things? I did back about 7 or 8 years ago and they worked great. Right now I’m remembering why I stopped. If you’ve used any kind of hydrogen peroxide based teeth whiteners – and have a chip somewhere that comes in contact with the gel – you know what the hell I’m talking about. It feels like you got hit with a bolt of lightning that shoots through your tooth nerve, up into your brain, back down through your chest and down your arms to the tips of your fingers. It’s incredible the amount of pain that can be generated through a tooth roughly the size of nail on your left pinky toe.
I’m going to tough it out tonight and keep the strips on. I’m in a glutton-for-punishment mood. Most likely because I have a big event coming up and want to look my best. Isn’t it amazing what you’ll do to look damn good? Or at least, not look bad? Kinda like a crash diet when you’ve got to lose 20 pounds before the 10 year class reunion. That’s like 2 pounds per year. But you don’t have years. You have a few weeks. Because you got the notice and waited until the last minute.
They say a normal, healthy rate of losing weight is 1- 2 pounds per week. I think THEY could use a little kick in the ass because you can easily double or triple that if you’re dedicated. So how do we burn fat off faster? Well, when you’re exercising you want to up your intensity. Meaning, bust your hump.
Kick ass and take names and all that. The harder you work, the more calories you burn, the more fat is burned, the happier you are when you try that pair of dockers on. (Please click off this page if you really plan on wearing Dockers to an important event. I’m sure you’re very nice, but not the demographic that will enjoy and benefit from my ramblings.)
OK so there you are busting ass, making it happen during the workout. Believe it or not, there’s another factor that’s gonna make an even bigger dent in your fat burning journey. Diet. What you eat is going to make the real difference. I should probably say it’s what you don’t eat. Either way, losing weight or more specifically, body fat, comes down to taking in less calories than you burn. This way your body digs in to your belly fat with a big ol’ spade shovel and tosses it into the coal burning furnace called your mitochondria. I know, I know, too much textbook talk. Back to the point at hand- eat less, move more.
“But what about eating organic foods or going low-carb?”. That’s all well and good, but the bottom line is calorie intake. Calories in and calories out. You want more calories going out than going in. Doesn’t matter of the calories come from honeydew melons picked by unicorns or a cheeseburger from Wendy’s when it comes to losing weight in the short term. Long term, you gotta keep an eye on that for other reasons, but you have a few weeks and we need to look sharp. Did I mention the pain in my teeth right now?
